Thank you for your interest in the Troy University Color Guard.  We are very proud of our color guard and they are a great addition to the Sound of the South each year.

Interviews will be held the following days: (tentative)
A sign-up sheet with be posted on the bulletin board in Long Hall after spring break. If you are interested, please sign the sheet for an interview. You must have marched with Troy University Color Guard for at least one year prior to auditions.  You also must have a GPA of 2.2 and maintain a GPA of 2.2   You will also need to be enrolled in MUS 1181 during the fall semester of 2009.  The candidates should be prepared to teach a short routine to a small group. This could be part of their individual routine or a separate routine. There will be a 15 minute teaching session that will allow the judges freedom to observe the candidates teaching ability, style, and leadership skills.

Results:
The results of the auditions will be posted the following week.  Formal letters will also be mailed to each individual who auditions. 

What to expect:
Color Guard will meet once a month during the summer months of May, June, July for uniform fittings and to learn standard routines that will be performed at every came. Band camp will begin near the end of July prior to the start of the fall semester.

Sound of the South Color Guard Audition Requirements

Basic Skills:

Drop Spins
Speed Spins
Over Hand Spins
Pop Toss
Speed Spin Toss

Individual Routine:

Perform 1-2 minute routine to music of your choice. Music should not contain explicit lyrics; needs to be recorded on a CD labeled with your name.

Routine should show off your best abilities such as movement, dance, tosses, and weapon work.  There will be a weapon line tryout immediately following the individual routine, but it would be best for you to show off your weapon skills in your individual routine as well. Judging will cease after two minutes.

Impromptu Routine:

You will also be judged on your learning ability through an impromptu routine that will be taught the day of auditions. You will be judge on your ability to perform with good facial expression, body technique and coordination to perform in a group.

Weapons:

The Sound of the South is excited to be starting their first formal weapon line this year!  Weapon line tryouts will be held immediately following the individual routines.  Anyone interested in trying out for the weapon line should bring their own equipment and be prepared to do some basic spins and tosses in a group setting, as well as learn a short impromptu routine that will demonstrate their ability to learn and perform weapon work.  

Marching Fundamentals:

You will be judged on your learning ability regarding marching fundamentals.

Performance Attire:

Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in.  No baggy clothes.

What to Bring:

Application, application fee, resume and picture if you have not already mailed it

Your own equipment – flag, rifle, etc
