The Sound of the South Marching Band will be holding audition for the 2007 University Dance Team. This team will perform at all home football games and travel with the band to away games. The Dance Team also performs at pep rallies, band exhibitions, and community events. The dance team is under the direction of the band which provides a scholarship to all dancers and pays for their travel.

About the Auditions
Auditions will be on TBA. Registration will begin in the band room at TBA with auditions starting at TBA.

Location:
Registration will be in the John M. Long Hall (Band Room) on the campus of Troy University, Troy, Alabama. Auditions will be at the Rec Center Gym dance room located by the outdoor pool on the campus of Troy University, Troy, AL. (Please see the map below)

Eligibility
Students auditioning for the dance team must have applied and been accepted to the university. Candidates must also have a BMI (body mass index) of 25 or less but no less than 17 in order to audition. Each individual will be weighed and measured for BMI accuracy at registration. If you do not meet the BMI requirement at the time of registration, you will not be eligible to audition.

Attire
Dance costume, leotard and tights, or jazz pants and top. Dress according to what makes you feel comfortable and able to attract the judge’s attention. No shorts or t-shirts will be allowed. Hair and make-up should be how the individual feels is appropriate for their performance.

Audition Format
Auditions will go in the following format:
• Performance of basic technique skills including: double/triple pirouette; fouette turn sequence; axel turn; leap in second; switch leap; toe touch; splits; heel stretches; marching rhythm
• Performance of short routine in groups (Taught at auditions)
• Performance of individual routine ( This routine should be one minute long that the candidate bring)

Auditions will be closed to the public; only dancers, judges and band personnel will be able to be in the audition room. Please bring your music on a CD labeled with your name on it.

Judging Information
The candidates will be scored by a panel of outside judges based on the following criteria (Total of 100 points possible):
• Individual Routine: difficulty; variety; crowd appeal; flexibility; arm, leg, and body placement; control; pointing; turnout; projection and rhythm
• Basic Technique Skills: arm, leg and body placement, control, turnout, overall skill proficiency; marching rhythm and timing
• Group Routine: performance attitude and enthusiasm; poise; eye contact; smile; knowledge of the routine
• Appearance/Fitness: stamina, muscle tone, physical appearance and posture

Selections
The Troy University Dance Team members selected for the 2007 marching season will be announced the following week on our web site. Membership on the team will be determined by the candidate’s audition score. If you are selected to be a member, you will be required to attend a May meeting and a June and July weekend practice. Members who make the team will be expected to pay for uniforms and other special accessories if they don’t raise the money. More information about raising the money will be given out at the May meeting.

Application for Auditions
Please let us know that you will be auditing by filling out and returning the application below along with your $15 application fee (checks made payable to Troy University Dancers). The application and fee must be received in our office by TBA. If we do not receive it by then you may still register on the day of auditions; however the fee will be TBA.
